Outgrow Your Fears

I’ve been playing soccer for about 8 months. Prior to that, I reckon I had kicked a ball less than 20 times in my life. And, there is no false modesty here, when I say so far I’m really rubbish at soccer! Often I make the team worse as soon as I step on the pitch. Urgh…I have nearly given up so many times.

I get a weird sense of satisfaction from putting myself out of my comfort zone. I can’t say I like it, but it makes me feel strong. Even when I’m observably ‘failing’, it feels strong to, as Brené Brown says, put myself in the ring.

This week I scored my first goal (I usually play defence). It was awesome.
My children were there and they saw my goal. That was really cool.
Our opposition all smiled as my incredibly patient and inspirational teammates ran across the pitch to jump on me and celebrate. That was pretty spectacular.

I am outgrowing my fears and I have gone from voyeur to player, and I can never go back.

Of course, I have new fears that have replaced the old ones. The old ones seem tame in comparison. And that's good...! More fears to chase down, calling me to grab even more of life.

If you want to outgrow your fears, I'm starting my first public program in 2020: The Courage Club

I'd love you to join (I have some lovely offers pre-Christmas)
