The real virus is the virus of fear
Easy to catch.
Easy for it to eat into our joy.
Easy to transfer.
Fear is a pandemic.
We must be vigilant to our fear system which easily gets switched on by our central but primitive brain.
We are built to respond to fear.
We can become fear focused at the drop of a hat or a cough from a stranger.
Two thoughts to stop the virus of fear:
1) We could exercise compassion. This is a difficult time for our human brains. We are flawed and biased, designed through evolution to focus on fear. If we have compassion for ourselves, for our feelings, we have a chance to change our relationship with the fear, making it less controlling. If we have compassion for others, we can understand their position and take action towards helping them or at least stopping ourselves contributing to making things worse.
2) We could exercise self-safety. We can learn how to create self-safety despite the challenges of our world, how to foster helpful thinking and behaviours that will drive peace and satisfaction internally. By practising self-safety (along with compassion), we have a chance to stop the virus transferring to others, maybe even curing others who have caught the virus of fear. Worthy work.
As ever, I'd love to hear your thoughts on this.
