There is no such thing as feeling courageous

What?!

Yup, think of an event in your world (big or teeny) that you call courageous. Perhaps you,

• started a new role

• had a difficult conversation

• listened to an opposing view

• started a conversation with a stranger

• told someone how you feel

• adopted a change at work

• presented to a new client

• went down a mountain on skiis for the first time (on my mind as I just did this for the first time this week!)

• played goalkeeper when you usually play on the field (again, on my mind as I did this for the first time last night!)

Before and after the event you may feel energetic, excited, powerful, resolved, determined, clear, focused, driven, strong, proud, exhilarated relieved, excited, powerful, surprised, sick, overwhelmed, and a whole host of other predictable and unpredictable emotions.

Whatever event you focused on, you were most likely not feeling courage, you were doing courage.

You identified that event not because you felt courageous, but because you acted courageous. Major difference.

You know why this is important? Because I know too many people, knowing what the next move is and waiting to feel courageous enough to do it.

Do courageous things and you will feel confident on the other side. You will feel proud on the other side, strong, capable, powerful, bigger.

Do not wait to feel courageous.
