Learn simple grounding techniques to counteract fear-based decisions in your meetings

Like a pallet cleanser before the main course would clear your taste buds (remember when we used to eat out??! Although personally, I'm not sure I've had a palate cleanser since 1989), using a grounding technique before a meeting starts is a good way to clear your attention.

In times when our emotions are disrupted, the usual chaos of moving from task to task, meeting to meeting, person to person, is MAGNIFIED!!!!

Make no mistake, your emotions are in a heightened state. Therefore your decision making or even just your focus at work will be compromised. Your connection with each other will be disrupted. The quality of your thinking reduced or distracted. You will most likely be coming at decisions from a fear or a loss perspective, and science has shown us how that makes our decision making worse/biased. How can fear ever be a good place to assess the way forward?

Here are three of my favourite super quick ways to ground yourself when emotions are heightened. Maybe just pick ONE of these and spend a few minutes at the beginning of your next meeting/video call to ground all attendees. This will make everything that follows better...I promise.

  • 3-minute breathing script here

  • Take a few minutes to notice 5 things you can see around you, 4 things you can touch, three things you can hear, two things you can smell, one thing you can taste.

  • Take a few minutes to focus on the feeling of the ground beneath your feet, the clothes on your skin. Move your attention around your body to different parts and focus fully. See what you can feel, what you can notice and experience.

This will make everything that follows better...your connection, your conversation, your decision making, your courage, your pleasure.

Let me know if you want more information on grounding techniques or anything else to increase your safety mindsets for efficiency and wellness.
